Changelog

MIDIpad is in early access - releases still reshape it on the way to 1.0. This page records what each one changed: added, sharpened, and sometimes removed.

0.7.0August 2026
  • The d-pad plays figures now: hold a direction while the left stick rests and the hi-hat plays around the beat - offbeats, pickups, and their corners on the diagonals. Release and it stops, like everything else on the pad.
  • The left trigger is the lean: squeeze and the whole machine plays harder - both streams and the backbeat rise together, the strongest hits reaching full force at the bottom of the pull - and it sits back down when you let go.
  • The right trigger rolls the snare: depth brings the roll in by layers, from a soft pulse on the beats to the full buzz, all of it ghost-note territory the backbeat keeps smacking through. Squeezing arms the backbeat too, so the 2 and the 4 play through every roll.
  • Machine snare hits now hold their length on the wire instead of firing as instant on-offs, so kits that follow note-off stop swallowing the backbeat and the rolls.
  • Gone: the d-pad's toms and cymbals - the figures took the pad, and the kit slims to the four face buttons and the three machine lines.
0.6.1August 2026
  • The right stick is now the strum stick - the strings laid around its rim, on every pad. Land on the rim and the string there plucks at the speed of your flick; ride the rim and the pick crosses the strings one by one; press the stick in to pluck and hold, carry it to another string, or drum the press for a tremolo. Free in demo.
  • New Expression settings name what the instrument sends - Energy and Agitation - and make where each lands in MIDI yours to choose: channel pressure, a CC or both, between a floor and ceiling you set. The defaults are exactly what MIDIpad has always sent.
  • Parallel now flips each chord in place: the same spot on the wheel, the other colour, on all six wedges.
  • Climb & Stretch is now Stretch, and it stretches instead of sliding: the bottom of the chord holds its ground while the space between voices opens the higher you pull.
  • Strum velocity follows the stroke you actually made - moderate strokes no longer land pinned at full force, and hard ones no longer come out limp.
  • Gone: the right stick's arps (the strum stick is the one thing the stick does now), the strum axis and low-string settings (the low string sits at the bottom, the way a guitar hangs, everywhere the strings are drawn), and the Slide dial (its value lives in the Expression settings now).
0.5July 2026
  • Early access begins. MIDIpad goes on sale with the instrument complete: Chords and Drums, twelve voices, and the full MIDI and MPE output.
