The second face of every palette

Every palette has a second face. Hold the left stick in - L3 - and the wheel you're looking at - Home, Dominant or Parallel - shows it; release and it's gone.

Like the bumper visits, the layer is momentary, it affects only what you play next, and ringing notes are never altered.

What each face holds

PaletteHeld with L3
HomeSuspensions - each triad trades its third for the note above it
DominantSuspended dominants - V7sus in every position
ParallelSevenths - each flipped chord deepened by its seventh

Suspensions take the colour out of a chord and lean it forward; releasing the stick and strumming again puts the colour back. Parallel's face goes the other way - richer instead of plainer, its borrowed chords thickened into sevenths.

Release order is the phrase

The bumpers and L3 stack, and the order you release them is the order the harmony moves. One example, with the stick held at the tonic position throughout:

  1. Hold the right bumper R1 and the stick click L3: strum V7sus.
  2. Release the stick click, keep the bumper: strum V7.
  3. Release the bumper: strum home.

Three strums from one stick position, articulated by releasing two controls in order. Every combination of bumper and layer works the same way: each hold is one step away from home, and letting go walks back.
