Changing the feel
Otherwise you might as well just use a sequencer.
The bumpers reshape the groove while you hold them, and it all goes back when you let go.
- Hold the left bumper L1 for half-time. The hi-hat drops a level - quarters play the 1 and the 3, eighths play quarters, sixteenths play eighths, the off-beats play the 2 and the 4 - the kick plays at half its rate, the backbeat drops back to the 3, and the kick placements and the snare figures stretch along with it.
- Hold the right bumper R1 to double the backbeat. Only the snare doubles. The kick and hat streams are left alone.
They compose
Hold both and you get something neither one does on its own: the groove stays halved and the doubled backbeat brings the snare back to 2 and 4, so you've got a half-time groove still swinging its full-time snare. Release them in either order.
Half-time as a setting
The bumper halves what's playing, and the figures stay the ones picked for the song's tempo. The Half-time switch in the main window puts the whole kit at half the song's tempo instead, so every figure is the one a kit at that slower tempo would play. The bumper still works over it.
